JUSA Spring Week 2

Make sure you are subscribed to RainedOut to get the latest field information.  I get the info from the same place, so don’t e-mail/text me about fields open/closed – subscribe to the service.

Text JUSAUPDATES (all one word) to 84483 to receive alerts about field conditions on your mobile phone.

Rules

Rules are mostly the same as fall except:
U9/U10 do NOT play quarters. Free substitutions at any stoppage.
HOME team has choice of side to occupy.  Teams sit on opposite sides, including Signature teams.
U12 Rec Gold divsion will play 11v11 on a regular size field/goals.  Size 4 ball is fine.

All other fall rules are in effect:
Build-out line for all 7v7 games including offside modifications.
No heading in U11 and below and Rec U12 (combined U11/U12 division).

Player Cards

Player cards are not required this weekend.  Some coaches may not have admin cards yet, either, and some new coaches are unable to get them at all.  There is an issue, currently, with no new coaching certifications being offered by Cal South due to a changeover in the manner and means of coach education.  I know it has affected several Fullerton teams and possibly others.

Uniforms

Some JUSA teams may not have all/some of their uniforms yet.   Similar-colored shirts or pinnies with or without numbers are fine.

JUSA Spring Week 1 – FIELDS CLOSED

JUSA Yorba Linda and Placentia fields are closed today.

If you are signed up for RainedOut you should have received the notification at 7:51am

Please be sure to read the notifications carefully.  A previous notification said, “FR:JUSA  OJSC Fields and ASA fields are open March 3.”  All the RainedOut notifications start “FR:JUSA” so don’t confuse that with the actual text of the email.  That notification was for OJSC and ASA (Anaheim) fields, only.

Saturday/Sunday 11/18 – 11/19 – IMPORTANT INFO

READ CAREFULLY
Signature, Intercity and U8 games tomorrow are regular season matches.
All U9-U12 and B14 Recreational matches are part of JUSA Cup.
Be sure to look on the referee schedule to see which type of JUSA Cup game you are doing: Elimination Game, Quarterfinal, Semifinal, Final
Full JUSA Cup rules are here. Highlights are below:

Minimum Play Time for JUSA Cup games

The most important thing to remember is that, just like in regular season, minimum play time rules are still in effect throughout JUSA Cup play.
ALL PLAYERS U-9 to U-10 MUST PLAY 3/4 OF THE GAME.

This is enforced by the referees by marking the players who sit out each quarter. Substitutions are ONLY made at the quarter breaks.

U-12 to U-19 MUST PLAY 1/2 OF THE GAME.

Referees should make a mental note of those players sitting out to start and make sure they get subbed in. If a player sits out the entire first half, remind the coach they must play the entire second half.

If a game goes to extra time, every player must play in at least one of the two extra time periods provided that both are played.
Game Duration

Elimination Games and Quarterfinals
U9/U10 games will have 20 minute halves (with quarter breaks)
U12/U14 games will have 25 minute halves
Semifinals and Finals
Regulation length:
U9/U10 games will have 25 minute halves (with quarter breaks)
U12 games will have 30 minute halves
B14 games will have 35 minutehalves
Referee fees remain the same as regular season JUSA Recreational games
Determination of a Winner
Elimination games and Quarterfinals go straight to Kicks from the Mark
Semifinals and Finals have up to two extra time periods with
GOLDEN GOAL

(first goal scored wins the game). If still tied, then proceed to Kicks from the Mark.
Extra time duration (each period):
U9/U10: 5 minutes
U12: 5 minutes
B14: 10 minutes
Kicks from the Mark

Reminder: For 7v7 and 9v9 games, the penalty mark is 10 yards from the goal line, not 12. And, these fields have varying size goal and penalty areas from the 6yd/18yd larger fields, so the penalty spot will not be equidistant between the two areas. You will have to step it off.

Fall Week 2 – IMPORTANT INFO

Be EARLY – This is the second week, but the first week for most teams. Many teams are new to some of the fields, there may be issues finding/unlocking equipment.  It’s better to sort that out at 8:30 instead of 8:55.

Referee Fees – ESPECIALLY G14
The Referee Fees document is here

NOTE: If you’re doing G14 games, these are part of InterCity this fall and the fee is $49 per team, not $42 per team like B14 Rec.

Player Cards & Match Reports

Recreational (“Rec” games in the “Type” column on the schedule):  No teams have player cards yet.  They should present medical release forms and a handwritten game card.

Signature (“Sig” games): All JUSA teams playing at JUSA fields tomorrow should have player cards.  I have no clue about the away teams.  There’s been zero communication from Cal South or the JUSA Signature Director.  The teams might be able to print the match reports online – I have no idea…

InterCity (“IntrCty” games): Only 2 JUSA teams have cards so far – I have no idea which two.  Some teams may be able to print the match reports from the online schedule, some might not.  Again, no communication from Cal South.

All of this is caused by the new concussion form that every player must turn in.  It’s been a major headache trying to get the forms turned in and just as hard to get them recorded in Cal South’s online registration system.  Until every player on the team has cleared the concussion form requirement, the team cannot be activated online and no player cards for any player on that team can be printed.  So, as you can tell, this is causing a major delay.   Without being able to activate the team (and the players on the team), the manager may not be able to print out a match report for Signature or InterCity, so that makes it even harder.

Bottom Line:   All I can tell you is that you’ll just have to let whoever shows up, play, as long as they have a medical release or a parent/guardian present, and they’re properly uniformed and equipped.

Supplemental Rules for 7v7 and 9v9 play

Again – CONSISTENCY is vital.  If you signed up for games, you had to pass a quiz, so you should know everything right?

Remember, NO BUILD OUT LINE ON 9v9 GAMES.  Some 9v9 fields may have had one erroneously marked on the field – IGNORE IT.  Goalkeepers can drop kick the ball in 9v9, players can ignore the line.

I do not want to start hearing coaches telling me that the Build Out Line is enforced differently every week.  There’s one interpretation and it’s very clear.

No heading in Rec U12 and below.  Heading is ALLOWED in Signature U12. Heading is not allowed in Signature U11 and below

U8/U9/U10 – QUARTERS – REC ONLY – NOT SIGNATURE
Remember, Recreational U8 through U10 play QUARTERS during regular season.

Quarter breaks are NOT a halftime.

Players should get a quick sip of water, coaches should make substitutions, referees should mark the players sitting out to make sure everyone plays 3 quarters, and then play resumes.

If you let the players go sit under a canopy or on their parents’ laps, you will waste 5 minutes trying to get them back on the field.

Put Equipment Away After Last Game
Make sure all equipment is put away after the last game at each field.

Fall Week 1 – IMPORTANT INFO

Be EARLY – This is the first week, teams are new to some of the fields, there may be issues finding/unlocking equipment.  It’s better to sort that out at 8:30 instead of 8:55.

I noticed a few referees on games over the summer with untucked jerseys. Tuck your jerseys in.

Weather
It could get up to 92 tomorrow with 57% humidity.  Give short water breaks ON U12 and up games if necessary.  Games are still 90 mins. or 120 mins. apart, so give them back the time spent getting water.

U8/U9/U10 – QUARTERS
Remember, Recreational U8 through U10 play QUARTERS during regular season.

Quarter breaks are NOT a halftime.

Players should get a quick sip of water, coaches should make substitutions, referees should mark the players sitting out to make sure everyone plays 3 quarters, and then play resumes.

If you let the players go sit under a canopy or on their parents’ laps, you will waste 5 minutes trying to get them back on the field.

Goal Sizes
All 7v7 games use 6’x18′ goals

All 9v9 games should be using 7’x21′ goals, but fields may only have 6’x18′ or 8’x24′ available right now.  Use 6’x18′ instead of 8’x24′ if no 7’x21′ are available.  Vista del Verde and Bryant Ranch may only have 8×24 and Vista Del Verde still has an 11v11 size field (100 yards x 60 yards), apparently, instead of 80 yards x 50 yards.

All 11v11 games use standard size 8’x24′ goals

Referee Fees
The fee schedule is linked on the schedule website after you log in. Collect the correct amount.

Player Cards
No teams have player cards yet.

Coaches should have received the printouts of the medical release forms at uniform pickup.  Check the bottom for signatures and remind them to have the parent sign if there’s no signature.  Otherwise, they are useless if the parent is not present at a game or practice and the child needs medical attention.

Supplemental Rules for 7v7 and 9v9 play
If you signed up for games, you had to pass a quiz, so you should know everything right?

Remember, NO BUILD OUT LINE ON 9v9 GAMES.  Some 9v9 fields may have had one erroneously marked on the field – IGNORE IT.  Goalkeepers can drop kick the ball in 9v9, players can ignore the line.

I do not want to start hearing coaches telling me that the Build Out Line is enforced differently every week.  There’s one interpretation and it’s very clear.

All games this Saturday are Recreational so there’s NO HEADING U12 and below.

Put Equipment Away After Last Game
School starts next week so we want to make sure all equipment is put away after the last game at each field.  Last games are marked with notes in the schedule.
