JUSA Fall 2018 – Week 5 – IMPORTANT INFO

Be Early – This is always an issue, especially/unfortunately with the more experienced refs who should be setting a better example.

Player Cards

Still required for Signature/InterCity along with the printed match reports
Still no player cards yet for Recreational teams

7v7 Recreational – Played in QUARTERS

If you are doing U8, U9, or U10 Recreational (NOT SIGNATURE) matches, please remember the substitution procedures:
  • Games are played in QUARTERS
  • Substitutions are ONLY allowed at the quarter break (except for injury, yellow card, etc.)
  • Time STOPS – you have 90 minutes for a 50 minute game. Don’t take the time away from them.
  • It’s a quarter “break” – not a miniature halftime.  Keep it to 2 minutes or less.
  • All players must play at least THREE quarters.
  • You should mark the players sitting out each quarter on the game card to make sure nobody sits out more than one quarter.  That’s why there are boxes for each quarter next to the player’s name on the game card.
Here is the actual text from the JUSA Handbook for Recreational play:

U8, U9, U10 Modifications

1. Substitution procedure is as follows: approximately halfway through the first half, and approximately halfway through the second half, the referee shall stop the clock long enough to allow substitutions. The referee will attempt to wait until the ball is out of play, but may also do so when the ball is in play. This is a substitution break and divides the game into quarters. Normally, substitutions may only be made during this time or in case of injury.

JUSA Fall 2018 – Week 1 – IMPORTANT INFO

Double-check your schedules as there were some time/field changes.  Affected referees should have been notified by me.
There are some new refs to be trained and their names are listed in notes on the schedule.  Assist them in learning proper positioning and mechanics as an Assistant Referee.  I would appreciate any e-mail feedback, afterward, so I can setup their appropriate levels and max ages.
BE EARLY – At least 30 minutes prior to your first game.   Coaches, and your crew mates, get worried and start calling me.
FEES

A link to the fees is on the schedule login landing page. Print it and keep it with you.
Signature HOME team pays 100%.   Recreational and Intercity teams pay 50% each.
Only charge for the number of referees that show up.
In the event of a no-show at Signature, subtract the amount for one AR and round up to the nearest dollar.  Split evenly if you do 2-whistle or take Center/AR amounts if you use a Club linesman.
If for some reason you end up by yourself, charge 60% of the 3-ref rate.
PLAYER CARDS

All divisions may play without player cards this weekend.  Signature and InterCity MUST have printed rosters and only players whose names are electronically printed on the roster are eligible to play.
UNIFORMS

There are some Rec players who were added late and don’t yet have a uniform. They may play in any shirt that’s generally the same color as their team, or an appropriate pinnie.
RULES

Rules for all divisions across all 3 gaming circuits (JUSA Recreational, Cal South Signature, and Cal South Intercity are clearly posted and linked on the schedule page after you login.
If you’ve never done U8 before, REVIEW THE RULES.
Recreational: NO HEADING in U8, U9, U10 or U12
Signature: NO HEADING in U9, U10 or U11.  Heading is ALLOWED in Signature U12.
Signature games in combined age groups (U14/U15) will play according to the age of the HOME team and pay referee fees for that age group.  ALL the JUSA teams playing in Signature U15 are actually U14 teams so they will only play 70 minute games for $98.  Do NOT attempt to collect $112 from them and do not play 80 minutes.
Remember:  JUSA Recreational U8, U9, and U10 play QUARTERS in the fall.  Substitutions may ONLY be made at the quarter break.  Since all players must play at least 3 quarters, you should mark the players sitting out each quarter on the game card so that if you attempt to mark a player sitting out for a second quarter, you can remind the coach of the mandatory, minimum play time requirements.
All other age groups and all Signature and InterCity matches allow unlimited substitutions at any stoppage.  Players must play at least 50% of the game – a responsibility of the coach to maintain, but point out any obvious issues.
HEAT

It will be very warm tomorrow.  Allow hydration breaks as needed.  Where game schedules allow, add time for the water break.

JUSA Signature Friendship Tournament – Important Info

BE EARLY!!

Referees on 9am games should be ON THEIR ASSIGNED FIELD no later than 8:30am.  This does not mean you pull into the parking lot at 8:40am and then slowly walk out to find the rest of your crew who already did all the pre-game work for you.
  • Home team chooses which side to sit on and changes jersey colors if conflicting.
  • Check-in for equipment only – no need to check player cards/medical releases.
  • Perform a coin toss to determine sides/kick-off.
  • Record scores on game card provided by coach.  RETURN TO THE COACH as it’s used for the entire tournament.
STAY ON SCHEDULE
  • Some refs are doing games on multiple fields, some at the same venue and some at multiple venues.
  • Coaches may also have multiple teams.
  • Keep the games on schedule so there are no issues that arise out of running late on start times.

  • U11 – 25 minute halves (30 minute halves in Finals)

Rules

Rules are mostly the same as fall except:
U9/U10 do NOT play quarters. Free substitutions at any stoppage.
HOME team has choice of side to occupy.  Teams sit on opposite sides, including Signature teams.
U12 Rec Gold divsion will play 11v11 on a regular size field/goals.  Size 4 ball is fine.

All other fall rules are in effect:
Build-out line for all 7v7 games including offside modifications.
No heading in U11 and below and Rec U12 (combined U11/U12 division).

Player Cards

Player cards are not required this weekend.  Some coaches may not have admin cards yet, either, and some new coaches are unable to get them at all.  There is an issue, currently, with no new coaching certifications being offered by Cal South due to a changeover in the manner and means of coach education.  I know it has affected several Fullerton teams and possibly others.

Uniforms

Some JUSA teams may not have all/some of their uniforms yet.   Similar-colored shirts or pinnies with or without numbers are fine.

JUSA Spring Week 1 – FIELDS CLOSED

JUSA Yorba Linda and Placentia fields are closed today.

If you are signed up for RainedOut you should have received the notification at 7:51am

Please be sure to read the notifications carefully.  A previous notification said, “FR:JUSA  OJSC Fields and ASA fields are open March 3.”  All the RainedOut notifications start “FR:JUSA” so don’t confuse that with the actual text of the email.  That notification was for OJSC and ASA (Anaheim) fields, only.
